7 Days, 7 Different Tomato Facials

My GMAT is this Saturday and I am just this much away from freaking out. Instead of studying, I am blogging. I guess we can all guess how I'll do, huh? Haha.

Because I am on a low-buy, I am trying to think of new things to help improve my skin. As mentioned before, I'm one of the luckier ones. I'm not prone to break-outs. Even when the moon turns the tide, I get maybe one or two pimples and that's a lot. Usually, my blackheads will just raise up a bit and because I am not smart, I will attempt to pop them. This in turn, irritates my skin which may or may not mean a facial is in order. If I a not being lazy, I will do it.

For the next 7 nights, I am going to attempt a bevy of different tomato facials and report to you how each one works. Why tomatoes? Because:

1. It's got cooling and astringent properties.

2. It's rich in Vitamin C which is great for acne. It also helps brighten your skin. That's probably why so many daily facial creams promote the addition of Vitamin C.

3. It has naturally acidic properties which not only eats away the dead skin sells, but it also helps balance your skin's pH level.

4. It's got Vitamin A which is a big requirement for building healthy skin. If you're gonna buy facial creams, make sure it's got Vitamin A.

5. These fruits also possess antioxidants; an addition that makes them free radical fighters. This does not mean you shouldn't wear some sort of sunscreen on your face. Always, ALWAYS wear some sort of sun protection on your face.

6. It's cheap and it feels so freaking fantastic. Especially if you've chilled your slices and you're rubbing them on your face after a nice clay facial or a hot shower or both (preferably the hot shower first, then the clay facial) - oh my gosh. Just did a shower and clay facial combo last night. Rubbing that slice of tomato on my face gave it the right amount of tingle.

I love vine tomatoes because they're cheap and yummy. I uses to hate them because my dad grew them every summer. I hate turning away food so I ate and ate. Then I just couldn't do it anymore. Now, I'm slowly going back to my tomato roots. :)

Since I don't wanna buy anything special just for these purposes, I will stick with recipes that contains ingredients that I know I'll cook with in the future:

1. Chop one tomato and combine in a food processor or blender with 1 tsp. lemon juice and 1 tbsp. oatmeal. Blend to a smooth paste. Cleanse face and neck. Apply the tomato facial to blemished skin, leaving on for 10 minutes. Gently remove with a warm washcloth and rinse skin with warm water to remove all residue. Source.

2. Mix one cup oatmeal with 3 tbsp. non-fat dry milk, moistening all the oats. Chop one tomato and puree it in a blender. Add that to the oatmeal-milk mixture, stirring to incorporate all ingredients well. Apply to cleansed face and neck skin with the fingertips, keeping free of the eye area. Leave on the skin for 45 minutes. Use a warm washcloth to remove the facial and splash face with warm water. Source.

3. Blend 1 tbsp. powdered brewer's yeast with 1/2 tbsp. plain, unflavored yogurt, 1 tsp. each of lemon juice, tomato juice, carrot juice and olive oil. Mix by hand or in a food processor or blender to form a smooth paste. Cleanse face and neck and apply the facial mixture with fingertips, but not near the eyes. After 15 minutes, remove the mask with a warm washcloth and rinse skin with warm water. Source.

4. Slice a tomato up and rub the slices on your skin. I am going to keep this day completely low key since my GMAT is the following morning.

5. This mask is good for people with combination skin because it combines the astringent, blackhead removing and oil reducing properties of tomato with the antiseptic and hydrating properties of avocado. The mask also contains vitamins A, C and E and has a soothing and cooling feel. To make the mask, mash one small tomato and one small avocado. Mix them together well, and smooth the mixture on your face. Rinse after 20 to 30 minutes with tepid water. Source.

6. Mash 1 large skinned peach (or nectarine) and 3 tsp. honey together, and add 2 tbsp. yogurt until you have a workable paste. Pat evenly over your face and neck and around your eyes. Lie back and relax for about 10 minutes. Rinse well with warm water, tone and moisturize. I am replacing the peach with a tomato. Source.

7. Combine 1 egg yolk, 2 tsp. almond oil, and 1 ripe banana in a bowl and mash into a paste with a fork. Apply to face and neck and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water, pat dry, tone and moisturize. I am replacing the banana with a tomato but I'm super tempted to just do it with a banana since this sounds like it would smell FANTASTIC. Source.

It was surprisingly hard to find different renditions of a tomato-based facial. That's why you're seeing some other fruit facial recipes but as mentioned, the tomatoes will take their place. I don't know how well it'll work and there will probably be some ingredient fixing. All in all, a fun time to be had. :D

Meow Cosmetics: Caribbean Escape Swatches

Tonight is the last night you guys will be able to get your hands on Meow Cosmetics beautiful collection, Caribbean Escape. I ordered a large bunch of Meow samples, a few of which included samples from this collection. These puppies were shipped and received right before my business trip so I didn't have anytime for swatching. I won't have much time this week either because of my GMAT on Saturday (wish me luck) but hopefully, if I do well, I will have plenty of time after that. (All things held fixed: necessary purchases, grad school applications, work in general)

Moving on...for Labor Day weekend, Meow is having a special sale. All items are 20% off, plus free shipping with no limit! Since this LE collection will be going away for a bit, I was itching to buy. However, I have stayed away and hope to keep it that way because until my low-buy is over, I must not purchase any new makeup. Then, I will SPLURGE. :D

There was a bit of a mix up in my order though. Two of the blushes I ordered from their Lost Rainforest collection, Forest Flame and Ginger Torch, were the exact same. I consulted a few people, swatched both colors multiple times, and played with the minerals every which way. I don't know which blush color I received but I do know the mineral in the baggies labeled Forest Flame and Ginger Torch are an identical match. No worries. :) I contacted them so hopefully this will get sorted out soon.

I love the kitty print bag I got! Definitely useful. :)

Aren't the colors pretty?

I didn't realize how many shades of green I got until I saw this. Ah well, they're all very beautiful. <3

I have already used Calypso for a look. It's SO pigmented, all you need is a tiny bit! Definitely worth purchasing!

That's it for the swatches. I'm going to wait for my Lost Rainforest issue to be resolved before posting more swatches. :D This is only one part of my Meow swag.

What's your favorite colors? I am absolutely gaga over Papaya! It's a very pretty dusky pink. These pictures are in natural sunlight but since it was somewhat cloudy outside, they're a bit darker than usual. I didn't want to use flash since it washed out all the colors. Hopefully, I'll be able to work out this camera issue soon. Preferably not much longer than that. :)

Some stock talk and needed recommendations!

Since I'm traveling for work this week, I won't be able to do any swatches or reviews. I just received my Meow Cosmetics stuff on Saturday and brought it with me on the off-chance that I might have time to review. Looking to be no cigar. In the meantime, I'd love to get some recommendations for companies you guys have been keeping an eye on but for some reason, haven't been able to try out. So please, send some my way! :)

BORING STUFF AFTER THIS.

I'm also going to try something new today. If you had $5,000 to trade on stocks and you only had 1 day to make money off of it, what would you trade them on? I am going to keep trading this money as though I had it until I lose it all or by the end of this week. Whichever comes first. :D

Technical info: Scottrade charges $7 for each transaction (so $7 for buying the stock, $7 for selling the stock which makes for $14 total) and Ameritrade charges $10 for each transaction. For the purposes of this exercise, we'll go with Ameritrade.

Here are my picks:

Saks, Inc. (SKS)- Yes, the luxury department store/brand. There's a rumored bid for this company by a couple of private equity firms. Purchase 100 stocks at $8.13 each. Problem I see is that there are no other bidders looking to purchase them but if the private equity deal does go through, it'd be at $11/share. If I wanted to break even with the $20 transaction costs by Ameritrade ($10 for buying the stock, $10 for selling), then I'd have to sell them at $8.43. Total cost: $813 + $20 = $843 Break even: $8.43.

10.09.01- Shares are trading at $8.07. DOWN.

Cogent, Inc. (COGT)- This is a provider of automated fingerprint identification systems (AFIS) and other fingerprint biometrics solutions to governments, law enforcement agencies and other organizations worldwide. 3M offered $10.50 a share for them and the stocks are currently trading at $11.08. There are other offers rumored to surface soon. I would purchase 200 stocks. Risky pick since the bid by 3M is under investigation. Total cost: $2,216 + $20 = $2,236 Break even: $11.18.

10.09.01- Shares are trading at $11.02. DOWN.

Ceragon Networks Ltd. (CRNT)- 4G is huge right now. This company is a provider of of high-capacity, 4G/LTE-Ready wireless backhaul networks which enables cellular operators and other wireless service providers to deliver voice and data services, such as Internet browsing, music and video applications. Their stocks soared after receiving news that it has received new orders for its advanced FibeAir(R) platforms from a leading Indian operator. Sounds pretty hot. Stocks are trading at $8.52 per share after closing at $8.60 per share. Purchase 220 shares. Total cost: $1,874.40 + $20 = $1,894.40 Break even: $8.61.

10.09.01- Shares are trading at $8.76. UP.

Total money left: $5,000 - $843 - $2,236 - $1,894.4 = $26.60. I can buy some gumballs with that. :)

10.09.02 Edit: Just purchased 50 shares of CVLT at $26.17. Let's hope this is another 3PAR situation where I purchased at $23, estimated it would hit it's peak at $30, and NOT sell it at $31 because now, it's at $33. Total cost: $1,306.50 + $20 = $1,326.50 Break even: $26.53.

Lumiere Swatches

Here are swatches from the Lumiere goodies I received recently. Eye shadows up first!

Oh my gosh, I absolutely love how well these pigments go on. It's buttery, there's not that much flyaway, and even though it's highly pigmented (you only need a small amount), it doesn't come off like colors you should only wear at night. My favorite is Allure. It looks so bright in the jar but when you swatch it on, it's actually a very subtle, pretty, pink with gold color. Subtle might not be the right word, makes it sound more boring than it is. It really is a pretty color. I love it. I am definitely going to start integrating this into my daily makeup routine.

The free sample I chose was Silver Rose. Also a very pretty color. It's a bit cool for my tastes but I'm still going to try it out in some new looks.

"Natural Radiance" is a Lumiere face and body enhancer. I got it because I've been meaning to try out a glow for a while, but haven't found anything that made me go, "Wow. Must have." Then I saw a swatch of this and since Lumiere was having this big sale, I figured, "why not?"

"Ditto O" on the other hand, is supposedly a dupe for NARS blush, "Orgasm." I've been craving to purchase the NARS blush but couldn't fathom eating $26 for blush (nevermind I did $24 for mascara and eyelash curler EACH). So I shopped around for a dupe. Aromaleigh's Pure Rouge "Verve" popped up a lot. A bit more searching and I found myself some swatches of Lumiere's "Ditto O." I think NARS might have a bit more golden shimmer? Haha, I might need to go to the store and check it out again. Either way, I really like both items and can't wait to try them out.

The had a bit of a problem pulling the tape off the sifters for these two products. The sifter is really flimsy so when I started pulling at the tape, the sifter also lifted up and product started getting everywhere.

This was also another product I received for free since I spent over a certain amount. I love the formula. It doesn't seem too drying which makes it an immediate win. :) Still, whenever you wear gloss, my one tip to everyone is to use some sort of lip balm underneath!

I would definitely purchase from these guys again. LOVED the products.

Lumiere & MAC haul + EOTD

I got my Lumiere and MAC haul today! I thought I only got MAC today but it turns out that Lumiere wasn't too far behind.

Here's the MAC paint pot in "Soft Ochre":

Here's my Lumiere haul. You can find the list here.

And an eye of the day! I am seriously tired of this camera. I can't get it to show the colors very well when I use flash. Understandably, colors tend to wash out in flash but jeepers, I know there's a way to keep the color in. Maybe it's by buying a better camera. Lol.

Products I used:

MAC Paint Pot in "Soft Ochre"
Morgana Minerals in "Coraline"
Aromaleigh Pigment in "Amelie"
Aromaleigh Pigment in "Tea"
Aromaleigh Pigment in "Persephone"
L'Oreal Lineur Intense Eyeliner
MUFE Smoky Lash
Estee Lauder sample palette (eyebrows)

I got my eyebrows done (threaded)! Can't you tell? ;]

Ah...just took another look at the picture. No, you can't see the eyebrow job because it's being shadowed by that hideous fill-in I did. D:
